In 2022 and 2023, extensive engagement activities were done with local residents both in person and via the digital platform CommonPlace, to test walking / cycling / wheeling routes and understand issues and barriers.
Feedback collected was used by the Sustainability Team to design routes that are aimed to better connect residents with the local spaces and places they frequent. The network of routes have been collated and written up into five Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans. These included Biggleswade, Potton & Sandy.
An online session for Town and Parish Councils regarding the Rural Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) was recently held.
The main aim for developing a Rural LCWIP is to create a high-quality, accessible and safe infrastructure aimed at making our towns and villages more cycling, scooting, wheeling and pedestrian friendly.
At this early stage of developing the plan they are looking for local knowledge on where the links are to make active travel easier and more convenient and for residents to tell us where there are issues that prevent them from travelling actively in rural Central Bedfordshire.
They are using the Commonplace survey tool to collect this vital information. They will also be holding in-person events so that they can help any residents who need assistance with the online tool.
We encourage you to complete the survey and provide feedback, that will be used to inform and shape the rural LCWIP, which will be subject to public consultation planned for Spring 2025.
