Biggleswade Town Council (BTC) is pleased to announce the completion of the refurbishment of Abbots Walk, an important pedestrian route through the town centre.
The project has been delivered in collaboration with landlords’ agents Boddy Edwards, local shopkeepers, and BTC. The Council’s contribution was funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The refurbishment aims to create and enhance a north–south corridor linking Asda, the High Street and Market Square with Aldi and Palace Street, continuing through to the Station and the new Transport Interchange. The result is an improved, primarily pedestrian walkway that strengthens connectivity across the town centre.
Working closely with Biggleswade History Society, BTC incorporated a range of heritage-themed elements into the scheme. These include references to the site’s brewing history, the use of heritage colour palettes, and the design and installation of distinctive signage. The project also features a green plaque, two interpretation boards within Abbots Walk, planters, and new waste bins.
BTC would like to thank Greene King and Shaun Emery, landlord of the White Hart, for their valued support in helping bring the project to fruition.
This refurbishment represents a significant step in enhancing the town centre environment, improving accessibility, and celebrating Biggleswade’s rich local heritage. The official ‘reopening’ will take place on Friday 27 March at 12pm.Â
